East Peoria, IL — August 18, 2026 —

 Red Bud Fire Department is a dedicated team of 36 volunteer firefighters serving a 110-square-mile area in Southern Illinois. The department averages 100 to 140 fire and rescue calls each year, responding to 107 calls in 2025 and 70 calls so far in 2026. The department no longer responds to first-responder medical calls, allowing its volunteers to focus their resources on fire protection and rescue services.

Its annual three-day June picnic brings together local businesses, volunteers, and residents for food, entertainment, carnival rides, and a community parade. The event raises essential funds for new equipment while providing a cherished weekend celebration for the Red Bud community.

As active as they are brave and committed, the Red Bud Fire Department is a model for the many fire departments in our state. The dedication and determination this department has diligently shown toward the betterment and safety of their community earn them badges of honor with every service call.
