Northern Regional Seminar Agenda

Is Your Blanket Covering Your Assets?
The economy has changed drastically in the last two years and the farm machinery market has been affected too. New, used and salvage values are much different than there were in early 2020.  Has your company adjusted its rates to be ready?  We will have an open discussion on farm machinery and the supply issues you could face too.

Mock Board Meeting
Volunteers will run a mock board meeting and a moderator will walk us through the challenges that come with doing business as a board of directors.  Unintentionally violating laws doesn't make you innocent and we want to point out some common areas that tend to get overlooked in meetings.  While some of this meeting will seem entertaining, the knowledge you will walk away with is invaluable!

ROUNDTABLES
Roundtables allow members a chance to exchange ideas and solutions to the day-to-day issues that a mutual could face.  Following the morning topics that directly discussed the board meeting mock trial and farm equipment insurance, we are confident there will be a lot to share.  Gathering knowledge from our experienced members will help our newer members find ways to ensure their mutual will continue for another 100 years.

UPDATED FMDC Courses

Emerging Risk -- Operations and Insurance Elective Course (FMDC**).

Sherry Taylor, The WRC Group will kick off our FMDC courses for our directors.  When it comes to emerging risks there are many areas affecting our industry.  Sherry will discuss the Dog Breed underwriting legislation, discuss home-based business and the risk of hidden risk (this includes work from home), precision agriculture, and hoarding.  We will also discuss the changing expectations of the insured, sometimes referred to as Social Inflation.  Unfortunately, there is an expectation that ANY loss over the deductible should be covered, without deduction for depreciation.  That expectation is showing up in higher claim costs and in some cases, E&O disputes and lawsuits.

Underwriting -- Operations and Insurance - Elective (FMDC**)

Directors who understand the what and why of general underwriting rules can better serve their Mutual when developing rate-based risk.  This course will describe underwriting liability, insurance to value as well as insurance scoring concerns.  Risk review includes the application, inspections, and any tools that can share information when determining the risk at hand - have you provided your company with adequate options?   You will learn the basics and why it matters to you.
