Getting involved in the legislative process and ensuring the success of your industry are imperative... and it is your responsibility. We cannot and should not rely on the efforts of others to get the message out to our Congressmen/Women about the mutual industry and our many concerns. Don’t just take responsibility for your mutual's success; take time to get involved and make a difference in the industry as a whole.

The Congressional Contacts Program (CCP) is the avenue through which you can make this difference. By bringing members of our industry together with our elected officials, the Congressional Contacts Program is making a difference in our industry - our Congressmen/Women are much better educated about the state of our industry and the needs that our companies and policyholders have. You don't have to participate in any of the speaking portions of the meeting to be effective - just being part of the group helps make a difference and truly shows our commitment to our industry, which makes a great impression on our legislative body.

The average cost for this trip is $1500.00 for airfare and two nights of accommodations in D.C. You need to make your travel arrangements, but IAMIC will recommend local hotels; you can choose your favorite. We recommend arriving at Ronald Reagan Airport, but you can also use Dulles International Airport or Baltimore Airport, and you will incur a higher ground fare to reach the hotel. We begin by meeting in the hotel lobby at 4:00 p.m. on the first night, then walk as a group to the NAMIC Washington office for a briefing on the issues we will be discussing. After our briefing, IAMIC will take all participants to dinner, where you can network with your peers and begin preparations for our trip to Capitol Hill the following morning. Our second day begins early by meeting NAMIC staff in our hotel lobby and walking to our pre-scheduled appointments with Illinois Congressmen/Women. Everyone is on their own for dinner that evening. We generally go as a group, or you may venture out on your own.

If the cost factor will prevent you from being an essential part of this program in Washington, we encourage you to apply for the Congressional Contacts Scholarship. Click here to apply. The deadline is February 22nd, and the scholarship will be awarded by March 10th. Please mark your calendar and try to join us as we travel to D.C. to make a difference!
