9:10-10:15    Underwriting a Property Risk: (1 Hour Class)

  • This class will go into detail on what a “Risk” actually is and will encourage you to review your underwriting styles. We will explore the many different types of underwriting tools available and share tools that are free to you as well as some that may have an initial cost but we have found to worthwhile. Identifying a property risk and then decide where risk should be placed (Is it a farm or a home?) can sometimes be a challenge and this class will discuss this type of risk.  You will leave with many cool underwriting tools that you can use in your Mutual.

10:15-10:45 Break

10:45-12:00 Roundtables

One of everyone's favorite portions is the round table discussions where we can share our knowledge in a smaller setting.  Many questions will pertain to farm & home inspections but we encourage other underwriting questions too.  We will be asking questions related to the farm inspection hands-on portion during this time.

12:00-1:00   Lunch

1:00-2:15     Roof Pictionary:  INTERACTIVE

  • This fun and interactive session will go into detail on the different roof styles and roof pitches. We will also cover the many different types of roofing materials and explain why it is so important to have a certain shingle exposure to prevent wind lift of the shingle.  To help visualize these differences, we will have some shingle & roof pitch examples for everyone to see.

2:15-2:30     Break

2:30-3:45     Wood Burning Stoves:

Often we fear a policy that has a wood-burning stove, but with proper installation, the risk is limited.  Knowing how to underwrite them is key and this course will share some tools that will help identify key factors you need to review.  In this session we will be discussing:
  • Wood Stove VS Metal Insert
  • Proper distance set-backs
  • Chimney Types and Chimney Chases
  • Outdoor Wood Stoves
  • Who installed the unit and why this is so important
